Professor Henry Burger - Australia
Professor Henry Burger is Emeritus Director of Prince Henry’s Institute of Medical Research, Honorary Professorial Fellow, Faculty of Medicine, Monash University, Melbourne Australia and Consultant Endocrinologist, Jean Hailes Foundation for Women’s Health.. He is a practising clinical endocrinologist and a clinical investigator, whose major interests have been in reproductive endocrinology, specifically the physiology of the inhibins, the endocrinology and management of the menopause and the therapeutic use of androgens in women. He chaired the World Health Organisation’s Scientific Group on ‘Research on the Menopause’ in 1994 and is a Past President of the International and Australasian Menopause Societies. He is author or co-author of more than 580 publications. He has won a number of prizes and awards, including the Dale Medal of the British Endocrine Society, Distinguished Physician of the US Endocrine Society (1999) and the North American Menopause Society’s 2000 NAMS/Wyeth Ayerst Perimenopause Research Award and the 2006 NAMS Leadership Award in Androgen Research.
Professor Takeshi Aso - Japan
Professor Aso is Professor Emeritus, Tokyo Medical and Dental University. He served as Professor and Chairman, Department of Comprehensive Reproductive Medicine, Tokyo Medical and Dental University until 2006. Dr. Aso is President-Elect, Asia Pacific Menopause Federation, and will assume the Presidency for the triennium 2010-2013 and organize the 5th Scientific Meeting of the APMF in Tokyo, 2013. He presented a plenary paper at the 8th International Congress on the Menopause, held in Sydney 1996. He also served as the Secretary General of International Menopause Society and was the President of the 9th World Conference on Menopause, 1999 in Yokohama, Japan.
Professor Ko-En Huang - Taiwan
Professor Ko-En Huang is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Head of Center for Menopause and Reproductive Medicine Research of Chang Gung University/Hospital in Taiwan. He is also a visiting professor of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of University of Rochester, USA. Prof. Huang is currently a member of Executive Board of the International Menopause Society. He graduated from National Taiwan University School of Medicine and was trained as obstetrician and gynecologist at the hospital and was trained as reproductive endocrinologist at Chiba University, Japan and the University or Rochester, USA. He is the founding president of both Taiwanese Menopause Society and Taiwanese Osteoporosis Association. He served as President of Asia Pacific Menopause Federation in 2004-2007 and President of 2007 Scientific Meeting of APMF in Taipei, Taiwan.
Professor Susan Davis - Australia
Professor Susan Davis is an NHMRC Principal Research Fellow and Professor of Women’s Health in the Department of Medicine, Alfred Hospital Campus of Monash University. She has published extensively in the field of menopausal medicine with specific focus on the consequences of sex steroid depletion and sex steroid therapy. She has published over 200 peer reviewed journal articles and has achieved national and international recognition for her work. Professor Davis is past President of the Australasian Menopause Society, serves on the editorial boards of Maturitas, Menopause, Climacteric and the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy. She was a member of the Council and the Council Executive of Monash University 2006-2008. In 2009 Professor Davis received a Distinguished Alumni Award of Monash University and the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct Research Prize.
Dr Sonia Davison - Australia
Dr Davison is currently an NH&MRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Women’s Health Program, Alfred Hospital, Monash University, where she is undertaking a study of the effects of testosterone on cognition in women. She is also a recipient of the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation Fellowship, awarded by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, for her work on testosterone and female cognition.
Sonia is an Endocrinologist in Private Practice at the Jean Hailes Foundation for Women's Health with interests in gynaecological and general endocrinology, and women’s health at mid-life. She completed a PhD in 2006 examining androgen levels in over 1400 Victorian women and their relationships with age, wellbeing, sexual function, natural and surgical menopause. Sonia has authored a number of peer-reviewed papers in the area of androgen physiology and sexual function in women, and has received both national and international recognition for her work. Sonia is keen to promote education and research in the area of women’s health.
Dr Amanda Deeks - Australia
Dr Amanda Deeks is a counselling psychologist and senior post doctoral research fellow for The Jean Hailes Foundation for Women’s Health. Amanda has been involved in research, counselling and education in the area of women’s health for over 15 years. She counsels in the areas of premature and early menopause, menopause and midlife, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), libido, depression, anxiety and body image. More recently her research focus has been in the area of health related behaviours including lifestyle factors and behaviour change, risk perception of illness and perceived risks of treatment in women with premature and early menopause, PCOS, gestational diabetes and diabetes.
Professor Lorraine Dennerstein - Australia
Professor Dennerstein was Foundation Director of the Office for Gender and Health, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne. She previously established and directed the Key Centre for Women’s Health at the University of Melbourne from 1988-1996. In 1995 Professor Dennerstein was appointed a Personal Chair at The University of Melbourne. Professor Dennerstein was also the Foundation Director of the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Mercy Hospital for Women from 1988-1993. Professor Lorraine Dennerstein is currently Emeritus Professor with the Department of Psychiatry, the University of Melbourne.
From 1986 to 1989 Professor Dennerstein was President of the International Society of Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynaecology. More recently Professor Dennerstein was President of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health. Professor Dennerstein has been active in other medical organisations. She is a member of the editorial committees of 3 international journals and is the author/editor of 22 books and over 300 journal articles/chapters in books. She is currently Review Editor of the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Professor Dennerstein has completed a number of projects for major international agencies. These included: Commonwealth Awards for Excellence program (Commonwealth Secretariat); a report on Women and Occupational Health (WHO); and a report on Women, Bioethics and Human Rights (UNESCO).
Professor Dennerstein's contribution to medical education and to research in women's health was recognised by the award of the Order of Australia in 1994. In July 2005 she was awarded a Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Sexuality Research by the World Association of Sexology.
Professor John Eisman - Australia
Professor John Eisman AO (MB BS, PhD, FRACP) is a Professor of Medicine (Conjoint) of the University of New South Wales, a Staff Endocrinologist at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and Director of the Osteoporosis & Bone Biology Program at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. The focus of his research is the genetics and epidemiology of osteoporosis, encompassing twin and population studies as well as molecular and cellular mechanisms for gene effects.
He completed his medical training in Sydney and his post-graduate (PhD) training in Melbourne before pursuing post-doctoral studies in Madison, Wisconsin (USA) and Berne (Switzerland).
He has just completed five years as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, is a past member of the Board of the International Bone and Mineral Society and a past-President of the Australia and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society. He was Chair of the Australian inaugural National Health Priority Action Council’s National Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Conditions Advisory Group and is Co-Chair of the on-going Australian Arthritis and Osteoporosis Expert Advisory Committee.
Dr Anna Fenton - New Zealand
Anna is a Gynaecological Endocrinologist who completed a PhD in bone cell biology at the University of Melbourne. She was involved in establishing the New Zealand branch of the Australasian Menopause Society and has served on the board of Osteoporosis New Zealand. Anna has been active in establishing quality standards in bone densitometry in New Zealand. She is actively involved in research and both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Her research interests cover metabolic bone disease and midlife women’s medicine. She is co-editor-in-chief of Climacteric, the journal of the International Menopause Society, the New Zealand representative on the council of the Australasian Menopause Society and also serves on a number of corporate boards.
Dr Terri Foran - Australia
Dr Terri Foran is a Sexual Health Physician and has a special interest in contraception, menopause issues and the management of sexually transmitted infections. She was from 1998 until 2004, the Medical Director of Family Planning NSW and is now in private clinical practice in Darlinghurst in inner city Sydney. She also holds clinical and research positions at The Royal Hospital for Women.
In 2004 Dr Foran accepted an academic appointment with the University of New South Wales in their School of Women’s and Children’s Health. She is presently involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
Dr Foran is the monthly Women’s Health columnist for Australian Doctor Magazine, and in 2005 contributed to an Australian textbook on Sexual and Reproductive Health issues.
Professor Ian Fraser - Australia
Professor Ian S Fraser AO, MD, BSc (Hons), FRANZCOG, FRCOG, CREI, FFFP (Hon), DUa, is Professor in Reproductive Medicine at the University of Sydney, and a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility sub-specialist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. He is a Past-President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and is currently Honorary Secretary of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO). He is a member of the International Committee for Contraception Research and a Senior Scientific Adviser to the Population Council, New York. He gained his initial medical and specialist training in Edinburgh and Oxford, and now has a wide range of specialised clinical and research interests within reproductive medicine, specifically in the fields of menstrual disorders, endometriosis, contraception, menopause transition and gynaecological endoscopic surgery. He has current major interests in terminologies and definitions around menstrual disorders, mechanisms of abnormal uterine bleeding and in research into endometrial function in endometriosis. He has been responsible for over 500 scientific publications, with over 400 original scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Professor Victor Goh - America
Professor Goh is Professor of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology at UCLA and had postgraduate training in London, UK and was a Fogarty Visiting Fellow at the National Institute of Health from 1983 to 1985.
Professor Goh had worked in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the National University of Singapore for 30 years before relocating to the United States of America in 2006 and had had served as a consultant to the World Health Organisation from 1980 to 2003. Professor Goh has published and presented more than 480 articles and won numerous awards including the prestigious Science and Technology Award as a member of the team in NUH, which pioneered IVF in Singapore.
Professor Bruno Guiffre - Australia
Associate Professor Bruno Giuffrè is Senior Staff Specialist Radiologist in Radiology Department at Royal North Shore Hospital and North Shore Private Hospital. He is actively involved in teaching medical students as a clinical teacher of the University of Sydney, in teaching trainee radiologists as a teacher and examiner in the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists and in providing radiological assessment for clinical colleagues in many regular clinical meetings on campus and nationally. He has been instrumental in developing and supervising breast imaging and the multidisciplinary approach on the northern Sydney campus. His current research projects include correlation of histopathology with MRI abnormalities of breast lesions.
Professor Kunihiko Hayashi - Japan
Professor Kunihiko “Kuni” Hayashi, PhD is professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at School of Health Sciences, Gunma University, Japan. He received BS in 1980 and PhD in 1990 from University of Tokyo. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at School of Public Health, Harvard University from 1990 through 1992. He has been involved in clinical trials and epidemiologic studies for women’s health. He is principal investigator of a prospective cohort study project for women’s health, Japan Nurses’ Health Study (http://jnhs.umin.jp/). Professor Hayashi has served on public and private review committees for new drugs as well as environmental issues.
Dr Rosie King - Australia
Dr Rosie King graduated from the medical faculty at the University of New South Wales in Sydney in 1976, and worked in general practice for 10 years before specialising in sex and relationship therapy. Dr King is an author and educator with over 30 years of clinical experience. She is a visiting lecturer at the University of NSW in the Medical Faculty. Dr King is the author of the best-selling book for the public Good Loving Great Sex about overcoming desire difficulties. Dr King is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in the Sexual Health Medicine Chapter and past president of ASSERT (Australian Society of Sexual Educators, Researchers and Therapists).
Professor Alastair MacLennan - Australia
Professor Alastair MacLennan is Professor and Head of the Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Adelaide.
He specialises in reproductive endocrinology and especially in menopausal medicine.
He is a Past President of the Australasian Menopause Society and was Editor-in-Chief of both Maturitas and Climacteric, The Journal of the International Menopause Society for 15 years. He has been honoured by both societies with Honorary Life Membership for services to women’s health.
He has published over 300 peer reviewed papers and has conducted over 30 randomised controlled trials on aspects of the menopause.
Professor Rebecca Mason - Australia
Professor Rebecca Mason graduated in Medicine at Sydney University in 1975, then completed a PhD on vitamin D with Sol Posen. She worked in Endocrinology at Sydney Hospital, then Royal North Shore Hospital till 1988. In 1988, she joined the Department of Physiology, Sydney University. Her research interests include vitamin D, mechanisms of osteoporosis and the newly discovered role of vitamin D in protection from sunlight. She is a member of the Technical Committee of the Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage on Sunlight, Health and Vitamin D and of the Cancer Councils of Australia Working Party on Sun and Health. In 2009, she received an award for career contributions to vitamin D research. She is Professor and Head of Physiology, a Board member of Osteoporosis Australia and President of the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society.
Dr Christine Read - Australia

Dr Read is the Medical Director Family Planning NSW, Honorary Secretary of the Australasian Menopause Society.
Dr Read is a sexual health physician with a particular interest in the management of fertility and menopause. She regularly lectures on contraception and unplanned pregnancy and has written a number of peer reviewed articles on these topics. Dr Read is committed to providing better reproductive and sexual health care to rural and Aboriginal women and has managed a number of innovative projects to address the lack of services and information for these women.
Dr Kate Stern - Australia
Dr Kate Stern is the Head of the Endocrine and Metabolic Service at the Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH) and Head of Research at Melbourne IVF (MNF). She is a fertility specialist, gynaecologist and reproductive endocrinologist.
Kate is the medical coordinator of the Fertility Preservation Service at MIVF and RWH and this area is her major research interest.
Dr David Sturdee - United Kingdom
Dr David Sturdee is a consultant gynaecologist at Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals and Senior Clinical lecturer at Birmingham University in the UK.
He has had a special interest in the menopause and hormone therapy since 1975 when he took over the first menopause clinic to be established in England. His research interests have been particularly of the hot flush and the effects of hormone therapy on the endometrium and bleeding, and he has published and lectured extensively on these topics.
He was a founder member of the International and British Menopause Societies and is the current president of the International Menopause Society. He was co-editor in chief of Climacteric, the journal of IMS, since it was launched in 1998 until 2007.
Professor Helena Teede - Australia
Professor Teede is an Endocrinologist, Director of Research at The Jean Hailes Foundation, Head of Diabetes at Southern Health and holds The Jean Hailes Chair of Women’s Health at Monash University. She is an NH&MRC Research Fellow and sits on the NH&MRC Health Care Committee and Federal Women’s Health policy advisory committee.
She is on the Board of Diabetes Australia Victoria and is a council member of the Endocrine Society of Australia and the International PCOS Council. She has more than 100 publications and leads a team of multidisciplinary researchers. Her research interests focus on women’s health with a special interest in prevention of lifestyle related diseases.
Dr Amanda Vincent - Australia
Following postgraduate physician training in Endocrinology, Amanda Vincent completed a PhD investigating the pathophysiology of abnormal uterine bleeding at Prince Henry’s Institute, Melbourne. She is currently employed as an Endocrinologist with the Southern Health Menopause Unit and the Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism Unit. She works at the Jean Hailes Foundation Research Centre, Monash University as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow involved in clinical research and education projects with a particular interest in premature menopause. She is an Australasian Menopause Society Council member and is Chair of the Education sub-committee and a member of the Scientific Program sub-committee.
Professor Howard Hodis - California
Howard N. Hodis received his medical degree from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Currently, he is the Harry J. Bauer and Dorothy Bauer Rawlins Professor of Cardiology, Professor of Medicine and Preventive Medicine in the School of Medicine, Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology in the School of Pharmacy and Director of the Atherosclerosis Research Unit at the University of Southern California.
Dr. Hodis is an internationally recognized leader in atherosclerosis and vascular research and cardiovascular disease prevention and is the Director of the USC Atherosclerosis Research Unit. Dr. Hodis completed his medical training at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center where he also served as a chief resident in Medicine. He has received numerous honors and awards including NASA Technology Awards and an Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Southern California. He holds membership in various scientific societies including the Association of American Physicians and is a Fellow of the American Heart Association. Dr. Hodis serves on Special Emphasis Panels and review committees for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other funding agencies.
Dr. Hodis’ research emphasis is in the area of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease prevention and intervention as well as development and application of non-invasive and invasive arterial imaging technologies to the study of assessment, screening, prevention, and treatment of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Hodis specializes in the treatment of lipid disorders and the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis at the USC Lipid and Atherosclerosis Treatment Center. Currently, Dr. Hodis is conducting several epidemiological studies including HIV and cardiovascular disease and clinical trials including the investigation of the effects of B-vitamins and soy/isoflavone interventions on vascular disease. In a recently funded NIH trial, Dr. Hodis is assessing the effects of postmenopausal hormone therapy on atherosclerosis progression in women proximate and remote from menopause. Dr. Hodis has given more than 250 invited presentations worldwide and has authored or co-authored more than 100 original scientific publications in his area of research interest.
Dr Georgina Hale - Australia
Dr Hale is a Physician who specialised in Infectious Diseases, and later did her PhD in MidLife Women’s Endocrinology at the University of Sydney. She is now a Clinical Associate Lecturer with the University of Sydney, while working intermittently as a Physician in the remote North West of Australia. She won two AMS research grants in 2002 and 2004 to compete the detailed endocrine aspects of her PhD study. Following this, the North American Menopause Society awarded her the Chilcott Perimenopause Research Prize in 2007 and a New Investigators prize in 2008. She continues to collaborate with the Endocrine Unit at Prince Henry Research Institute in Victoria, Professors Claude Hughes and James Selgrade in North Caroline to construct a new mathematical model for the menstrual cycle, and with Professor Noel Bairey Merz at the Cedars Sinai Womens’ Heart Centre in Los Angeles.
